PHD Book Club The Book Club read for our December meeting is 'Night Waking', by Sarah Moss. This book was the original inspiration behind PhD Book Club. Sarah will join us to discuss the book and she and Harriet will also touch on aspects of her new memoir, 'My Good Bright Wolf'. Chaplaincy will have a few copies of Night Waking for people to borrow. Night Waking: "Anna Bennett has a book to write, an insomniac toddler, a precocious, death-obsessed seven-year-old, and a frequently-absent ecologist husband who has brought them all to a desolate island in the Hebrides so he can count the puffins and complete his PhD. She also would like to exercise her research-brain. How do they manage; what will confront them from the past; and what does the future hold for Anna?"‘Highly enjoyable... The upbeat conclusion to this blend of middle-class satire, historical fiction and campus novel does not soften Moss's withering take on sexism and her stark view of motherhood’, Anthony Cummins, Daily Telegraph. The Chaplaincy is buying in copies of Sara’s book for you to borrow. To collect a copy, please contact Sebastian at Chaplaincy@ed.ac.uk Dec 11 2024 15.30 - 17.00 PHD Book Club PhD Book Club meets 3:30-5pm on Fridays every six weeks, with Revd Dr Harriet Harris (a PhD veteran!).
